Haiti

Hello, everybody. Most of you reading this know that each week, I try to share with you my brilliantly hilarious (usually failed attempt at) humor here at  the View from the Bleachers.

But then the earthquake hit Haiti this past week, and suddenly, nothing I had to ramble on about seemed all that important. And it just did not seem right for me to send out my weekly humor  article at a time of such tragedy and human suffering.

So this week, instead of my planned post about my 2010 New Year’s Resolutions, I have a different agenda. I am asking you to please help the victims of this, the worst natural disaster tragedy to hit this hemisphere in decades and to reach out to the people of Haiti, arguably the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere if not the world.

Here’s the deal: For every person who emails me back to tell me that have made a donation of $50 or more to the Haitian relief efforts, View from the Bleachers (VFTB) will donate $5.00. For every person who emails me back to tell me they have made a donation of $100 or more to the Haitian relief efforts, VFTB will donate $10.00. Please DO NOT send any donations to me. Email timjones.viewfromthebleachers@gmail.com that you have made a donation of $50 or $100 (or more) and VFTB will make a matching $5 or $10 donation. We are on the honor system here. If you tell me you made a donation, I will take you at your word.  And no, a donation to your favorite arts charity won’t count. It needs to be for Haitian Earthquake relief. Thank you.

There are countless places you could donate to the Haitian earthquake relief. Here are just a few highly respected humanitarian relief agencies you might consider:

Please forward this link to anybody else you know who you think could make a difference.

Let’s get a little viral word of mouth here. Reply to me at the email address above and tell me you are donating $50 or more or $100 or more, and I will make a matching donation of $5 or $10 from VFTB.

You know how much I love to share my warped perspective about the world with this weekly humor blog. But this is one week where I just can’t find much to laugh about. Please help the desperate men, women and children of Haiti, whose lives have been changed forever. We all have so much to be thankful for that we all take for granted. For thousands of people in the poorest nation of all, they have lost everything – their husbands, wives, daughters, sons, mothers fathers – everything.

Thank you for reading this post and for being willing to make whatever donation you can afford. God bless you.
